THIS BILL, WHAT IT DOES IS IT PUTS INTO PLACE A SERIES OF LAWS TO HELP KEEP PEOPLE SAFE WHEN THEY’RE LIVING THEIR LIFE, DOING THEIR OWN BUSINESS. JUST LIKE PAM ROCK WAS AS A MAIL CARRIER, PAM ROCK WAS ATTACKED AND KILLED BY A PACK OF DOGS IN 2022. THE ACT, NAMED AFTER HER, HOPES TO STRENGTHEN REGULATIONS ON DANGEROUS DOGS. IT PROVIDES CLOSURE AND IT MAKES SURE THAT WHEN THIS HAPPENS, PEOPLE ARE HELD ACCOUNTABLE. WHEN THEIR DOGS CAUSE HARM TO ANOTHER PERSON. ‘Dangerous dog bill' one step closer to becoming law in Florida

The Florida Senate passed the Pam Rock Act unanimously, a bill to regulate dangerous dogs. “This bill, what it does is it puts into place a series of laws to help keep people safe when they're living their life, doing their own business, just like Pam Rock was as a mail carrier,” said Sen. Jay Collins, District 14.Pam Rock was attacked and killed by a pack of dogs in 2022. The act, named after her, hopes to strengthen regulations on dangerous dogs. “It provides closure, and it makes sure that when this happens, people are held accountable when their dogs cause harm to another person,” said Collins. The bill gained renewed interest after 8-year-old Michael Millet was killed by two dogs in DeLand. Volusia County Sheriff Mike Chitwood has been supporting it from the very beginning. “In awe of the legislature,” said Chitwood. “The fact that they took this bill that had been bouncing around for three years, and Michael seemed to put it on steroids, and it just flew through the House and the Senate.”The bill, headed to the governor's desk, would impose stricter requirements on owners of dogs deemed dangerous, including secure confinement, microchipping, and liability insurance.”Fencing is going to be required, you know, insurance, a liability policy out to $100,000 is going to be required,” said Sheriff Mike Chitwood, of the Volusia Sheriff's Office.
