Two dead dogs have been found dumped in a Black Country lay-by with an animal charity appealing for help to trace their owner.

The dachshund and Cavalier King Charles Spaniel were discovered by a member of the public in a lay-by off Moseley Road on the outskirts of Wolverhampton, off the A460 Cannock Road, on Wednesday, April 16.

The dogs were taken to a vets but are believed to have been at the location for ‘around a week’.

One dog was found on grass by the lay-buy while the other was in a bag hung up on a barbed wire fence.

The RSPCA (The Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty of Animals) responded to the incident and is now appealing for the public’s help to trace their owner.

The dogs were said to be microchipped but the details on them were not up to date.

RSPCA animal rescue officer Katey Freckelton said: “Both dogs were sadly already dead when they were found. One on the grass and the other in a bag hung up on a barbed wire fence.

“It’s incredibly sad that these dogs were dumped in this way and suspicious that their remains have been found in the location.

“The dogs both had microchips but the information wasn’t up to date.

“They were discovered on April 16 and taken straight to a vet, although the person who found them thinks they may have been there for around a week before they were found.

“If anyone has any information about where these dogs may have come from or who is responsible for dumping them here, please call our appeal line on 0300 123 8018, quoting incident number 01495311.”

The RSPCA is particularly interested in anyone who may have dashcam footage that may have evidence linked to the dogs being left.
