CHICO, Calif. — A fire, originating from a debris burn in the backyard, burned a home on West 4th Street on Thursday morning, according to the Chico Fire Department.
At around 8:20 a.m., Chico firefighters responded to the house fire at 1228 W. 4th St. They say the fire spread from a pile of debris and moved along the home's fence, eventually catching the house on fire, burning its backside and up into its attic.
Firefighters arrived at the home and got the fire under control within 10 minutes.
Chico fire says a man and two dogs were inside the home during the incident. Commenters on social media say a tree crew was working next door to the home during the incident and reportedly jumped over the fence to help get the dogs and a tortoise out of the backyard. Chico fire says nobody was injured during the incident.
Crews remained on scene for around two hours working overhaul and mop-up operations.
