Genesee County Animal Control announced an emergency temporary closure of normal operations due to an outbreak of distemper, parvovirus and kennel cough among their dog population.
Genesee County Animal Control said on Facebook that they have confirmed that all infectious disease cases were brought in by strays, and that symptoms began to appear after the mandatory five-day quarantine period, when shelter volunteers begin to walk and take the animals around the shelter.
Although animal control gives all animals intake shots when brought to the shelter, the shot does not prevent the spread of the disease or symptoms of the disease; it does prevent the disease from being lethal to the animals.
