PITTSBURGH (Gray News) – After a man suffered a medical emergency in Pennsylvania, an unlikely hero stepped in to save the day.
On Thursday afternoon, crews with the Ross West View ESMA responded after they were alerted about a man who had fallen with a hip injury.
The emergency responders said the one doing the alerting was none other than the victim’s pet dog, who first got the attention of the man’s neighbors.
When first responders arrived at the location, they found out the man had fallen 20 feet and had a significant hip injury.
Additional resources were requested to help get the man to safety.
Using a rope system, the man was pulled up and stabilized before being treated for his pain and trauma at the scene.
The patient was then taken to a nearby trauma center for additional care.
Officials said the dog stayed on the scene the whole time while his owner was being treated.
The Ross West View EMS said they wanted to thank all responders, including the Ross Police Department, Department of Public Works and Berkeley Hills Fire departments.
Most of all, the department said it wanted to thank the dog for his heroic efforts to help his owner.
They said the dog was rewarded with treats and a big bowl of water during the hot day.
