Public access to dog-friendly beaches in Cyprus is severely limited and basic facilities are lacking, the Cyprus Animal Party warned on Tuesday.
In a formal letter to the chairman of the central committee on beaches, the party urged immediate action over the condition and accessibility of most designated dog beaches on the island.
The party said that out of the seven beaches officially approved for dogs, only two meet minimum standards. These two sites are considered both accessible and equipped with the necessary infrastructure for pet owners and their animals. Concerns were also raised about the legality of one beach located in Neo Chorio, with the party suggesting that the use of the site may violate existing regulations.
The group is calling for a full review of the current locations and for the government to ensure that dog beaches are safe, legal, and accessible to all. It says the issue is urgent and must be placed high on the agenda of the central committee’s upcoming meetings.
