Morad Park will be closed on June 2 for the Visit Casper Marathon from 6 a.m. to noon. The reason why? The city says that its had at least five incidents of dogs biting runners on their route.
“To ensure runners, their supporting folks, and any spectators and staff are safe, we must close the park,” said city parks manager Randy Norvelle.
He suggests Mackenzie Dog Park on Bryan Stock Trail as an alternative for owners wishing to run their pets without disturbing human runners.
More than 370 runners will partake in the race, which is a Boston Marathon qualifier. They will come from more than 38 states and at least one runner will come from Canada.
The route ends at David Street Station, where participants and supporters will be able to enjoy live music and festivities, the city said in a press release.
