Animal charities have said they are unable to take in all the American XL bully dogs that owners want to rehome as they would have to euthanise them en masse.
The government announced last month that the dogs, which have been linked to at least three deaths this year and six of the ten fatal attacks last year, would join the list of banned breeds by the end of the year.
All Dogs Matter and Dogs Trust have said that the announcement has led to a big rise in owners looking to offload their pets, “exacerbating the issue of dog abandonment” according to Laura Hedges, 43, All Dogs Matter’s deputy manager.
As of January 1 owners of XL bullies will have to muzzle their dogs
