(CNN) – A pet food company is voluntarily recalling some of its beef and chicken dog food after samples reportedly tested positive for salmonella and listeria bacteria.
Answers Pet Food is recalling certain lots of its detailed and straight beef formulas and its straight chicken formula. The products were distributed across the United States in 4-pound containers and were also sold online.
The company says the dog food is being withdrawn out of an abundance of caution. No illnesses from the impacted lots have been confirmed.
The products being recalled have best if used by dates of May 6, 2026; January 31, 2026; January 2, 2026; and March 11, 2026.
Salmonella and listeria can affect both the animals eating the food and the humans handling the food, according to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.
If a dog has eaten some of the recalled food, pet owners are encouraged to consult a veterinarian if symptoms such as diarrhea, vomiting and fever exist.
Any of the products in question should be thrown out or destroyed in a way that kids, pets and wildlife can’t get to it.
