GRAND BLANC TWP., Mich. (WNEM) – A dog once abandoned in a porta potty now has a new home.
Hank was found last month in Grand Blanc Township stranded in the cold inside a porta potty, but now after recovering, Hank has a new family.
It’s been a tough journey for Hank, who was found at Creasey Bicentennial Park, but there’s a happy ending to his story.
“He’s just doing really good. He gets lots of food, treats,” said Jenna Kross, Hank’s owner.
But life hasn’t always been this good for Hank.
“Hank was found in a porta potty that I was cleaning at a park and not very good of shape,” said Jacob Kross.
He was the person who found the 3-month-old pit inside the porta potty.

“My first reaction was like, there’s like a raccoon or something in there because it scared me. So, I shut the door right away. And I looked in there again and it was a little puppy,” Jacob Kross recounted.
The pup was exposed to harsh temperatures and covered in feces.
“Very skinny, malnourished, freezing cold. Skittish. Very afraid of people,” Jacob and Jenna Kross said.
According to Grand Blanc Township police, Hank was abandoned for more than two days at the park. A 25-year-old woman was arrested for the incident and is facing charges.
“We were informed she did it because she lived in an apartment and they wouldn’t let them have this type of breed. You should have found that out before you even tried to get an animal, and you don’t just abandoned them,” Jenna Kross said.
But that isn’t the end of the story for the Krosses and Hank.
Jacob, his wife Jenna, and their son decided to make him a member of their family.
“We’re waiting for a while for the cops, and you know, this whole time me and my wife have been talking on the phone and she named him over pictures, and that’s pretty much what sealed it that we were keeping him,” Jacob Kross said.
The Krosses shared his story with hopes of preventing another pup from having to experience what Hank did.
“I don’t want it to happen to other animals, I think it’s just so sad. Like, if he wouldn’t have had to go to work that day because, you know, it had been snowing a lot, he could have died. He could have went to the porta potty to clean the next time and found a dead puppy,” Jenna Kross said.
“The pets don’t choose you, like, you choose the pet,” Jacob Kross said. “I don’t know, people just got to do better.”
But it’s a happy ending for Hank, finding a loving home and new chance for life with his hero.
“He had his first vet appointment and had his first couple vaccines and did really good there. They checked him all over, gave him a nail trim, gave some heartworm meds and everything,” Jenna Kross said. “He’s hyper, but he loves to play, and he’s really good.”
