The Department of Excise and Licenses suspects some animal businesses are operating without a license because there are only 52 licensed businesses in Denver.
DENVER — The City and County of Denver warned pet owners to make sure the kennels they are taking their animals to are licensed before they leave for the holidays.
The Department of Excise and Licenses suspects some animal businesses are operating without a license because there are only 52 licensed businesses in Denver.
“It surprised me how low because this is not just places where people shelter their animals, it’s doggie daycares, veterinarian clinics, places where you go out and get your dog’s hair cut or nails trimmed,” Escudero said.
Licensed kennel businesses are inspected for space, clean running water, and more.
The Department of Excise and Licenses says kennels are one of the few businesses in Denver that require a city license, when there is also a state licensing requirement. The others are liquor and marijuana businesses.
“I think a lot of people assume a business has a required license and unfortunately, sometimes it doesn’t,” said Eric Escudero, the spokesperson for the Department of Excise and Licenses.
