WAKEFIELD, Mich.
(WLUC) - The City of Wakefield received a $137,000 grant to build a new dog park.

Portions of this grant money are matching, meaning the city will also contribute $37,000 to the project.

The new fenced-in area where dogs will be able to run free will be built in Eddy Park.

Robert Brown, the Wakefield city manager, says he hopes this dog park will become a community space.

“Coming out of COVID, there’s just been a lack of facilities for social gatherings,” Brown said.
“This allows not only for dogs to socialize with themselves but provides a bonding moment for our community.
To go down with their pets and exchange ideas and thoughts which is ultimately the goal of the project.”

Brown says the city of Wakefield is highly trafficked.

He says he hopes this new park will encourage people to stop and shop at local businesses within Wakefield.
