Dog recovering well after being shot in head, rescued by Cincinnati organizations
JUST A LITTLE BIT. CHRIS. ALL RIGHT, KEVIN, THANK YOU SO MUCH. WELL, JUST A DISTURBING STORY HERE. A DOG IS RECOVERING AFTER BEING SHOT IN THE HEAD IN LINCOLN HEIGHTS. THAT’S RIGHT. VETS SAY THAT IT’S A MIRACLE SHE’S STILL ALIVE. AND WLWT NEWS FIVE’S RACHEL WHELAN IS LIVE AT THE SPCA, WHERE SHE’S CURRENTLY BEING TAKEN CARE OF. AND RACHEL, HOW IS SHE DOING? WELL, WHEN YOU CONSIDER ALL THAT SHE HAS BEEN THROUGH, MISS SCARLETT IS DOING PRETTY WELL HERE. SHE’S ALSO A BRAND NEW MOM TO EIGHT PUPPIES. THE SPCA SAYS THEY ARE LOOKING FOR FOSTER PARENTS RIGHT NOW, AND THEY HOPE THAT MISS SCARLETT WILL BE READY TO ADOPT IN A COUPLE OF WEEKS. SO WE WATCH MISS SCARLETT TAKE HER FIRST STEPS ON ALL FOUR PAWS AFTER BEING SHOT IN THE HEAD OVER THE WEEKEND. THE BULLET MADE ITS WAY THROUGH HER HEAD, NECK AND LEG. THIS IS TRULY AMAZING. I MEAN, TO GET SHOT IN THE HEAD ANY TIME AND SURVIVE. THAT IS PRETTY MIRACULOUSLY HAVING A BULLET GO THROUGH YOUR NECK WHERE ALL THOSE VITAL STRUCTURES ARE. I MEAN, THE CHANCE OF IT NOT HITTING SOMETHING VERY IMPORTANT. I THINK SHE IS AMAZINGLY LUCKY. AND THAT THAT BULLET DIDN’T GO INTO HER CHEST AND CAUSE MAJOR DAMAGE. THE HAMILTON COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE SAYS SHE WAS SHOT SUNDAY NIGHT BY A NEIGHBOR IN LINCOLN HEIGHTS. THE NEIGHBOR TOLD POLICE THE DOG HAD GOTTEN LOOSE AND WAS CHARGING AT HIM. WE DON’T KNOW ENOUGH. YOU KNOW, WE DON’T KNOW IF THIS PERSON THAT SHOT SCARLETT HAD A FEAR OF DOGS OR A HISTORY WHERE IT HAD BEEN BITTEN IN THE PAST. WE DON’T KNOW. SCARLETT’S OWNER SURRENDERED HER AND HER EIGHT PUPPIES IMMEDIATELY BECAUSE SHE COULDN’T AFFORD THE VET BILL. LUCKILY, A GOOD SAMARITAN CAME TO THE RESCUE. I HAPPEN TO BE CLOSE TO THE GLENDALE POLICE AND WAS ABLE TO HELP TRANSPORT A VERY ILL DOG AND AN IN NEED. NATALIE LOTTS OWNS THE DOG GROOMING SITE AND HOPE FOR PETS RESCUE IN AVONDALE. SHE SAYS THIS IS A REMINDER THAT WE ALL NEED TO BE RESPONSIBLE PET OWNERS, BUT ACCIDENTS HAPPEN. I DON’T THINK ANYBODY INTENDED FOR A DOG TO GET LOOSE IN ANY SITUATION OR STORY, BUT WE HAVE TO. WE HAVE TO DO BETTER. THE HAMILTON COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE SAYS THE NEIGHBOR DID SHOOT THE DOG IN SELF-DEFENSE. HOWEVER, HE IS BEING CHARGED FOR OWNING A GUN THAT HE WASN’T SUPPOSED TO OWN. THE OWNER OF THE DOGS IS ALSO BEING CITED FOR FAILING TO CONFINE HER DOGS. I’
