Dog rescued from cold, swift waters of canal near Woodlake | YourCentralValley.com

TULARE COUNTY, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) – A dog is lucky to be alive after somehow making its way into a canal Saturday morning, the Tulare County Fire Department says.

The department says it was contacted by Tulare County Animal Services around 11:20 a.m. after a passerby reported seeing a dog floating in the canal.

Firefighters responded to a portion of the Friant Kern Canal, around Road 212 and Avenue 306, near Woodlake to find the dog in the water.

Captain Francisco Benitiz says the canal had lots of cold, swift-moving water in it at the time.

After about an hour, and with the use of a firefighter connected to a rope rescue system, the dog was safely removed from the water and was determined to be uninjured.

Rescuers do not believe the dog has an owner as they say it did not have a microchip, nor a collar with a pet tag.

The dog was taken from the scene to the Tulare County Animal Shelter.
