As more establishments become pet-friendly, there has been a rise in amenities like dog parks. Many parks now incorporate a dog stick library where sticks are kept for easy access. Almost all dogs like sticks. When a couple visited the beach, their dog discovered the local stick library. Each day, he would carefully select “just the right stick” to carry to the beach.
Unlike many stick libraries, the custom one at the hotel held each stick separately on a rack. Dogs can select from a variety of differently-sized sticks. The dog carefully reviews each stick in the display before settling on the top one. It is, of course, the largest one.

This hotel isn’t the only dog stick library exercising creativity in design. Some designs are just painted crates. This option leaves plenty of room for sticks, balls, and even a plastic container of dog treats.

The concept of stick libraries has been around for quite some time. It started as just a pike of sticks at the base of a tree in a dog park. Eventually, someone put a sign on one of the piles, naming it a “stick library.” The idea is a play on the Little Free Library model. For those, people put books on a small, enclosed shelf, so people can donate or take free books. The trend spread quickly across the country, and stick libraries seem close behind.
