A dog was so terrified by the recent thunderstorms that he travelled 33km from his home in Boyle, Co Roscommon.

“Last Sunday, during the thunderstorm, a frightened collie in Boyle got loose and went missing,” the Leitrim Animal Welfare said. According to the charity “this brave collie had travelled over 33km from Boyle, Co Roscommon to Tarmon, Co Leitrim since Sunday.”

Thankfully, as he was microchipped, the collie has been reunited with his family. The charity highlighted that microchipping your pet is crucial, as it provides a permanent way of identifying your pet and ensures that if they ever get lost, there’s a much higher chance of being reunited.

“To encourage more pet owners to microchip their animals, we are offering a special rate of just €10 for microchipping. Contact our centre to take advantage of this offer and give yourself peace of mind knowing your beloved pet has an extra layer of protection.”
