Dog training club shows off to public

LOVES PARK, Ill. (WIFR) – “It’s like a brotherhood of dog people,” says Rick Lilly, an instructor and past president of the Forest City Dog Training Club.

People and canine members of the training club lounged, browsed and socialized Sunday at the center’s open house, 6203 Material Avenue, #8, Loves Park.

“We wanted the public to know what we do here. Some people think it’s just competitive stuff – it doesn’t have to be,” Lilly said. “If you just want a better pet, you wanna teach your dog some manners, wanna have some fun with your dog, this is the place to come.”

The open house had vendors selling food, dog treats, dog clothes and other knickknacks.

Lilly said members of the club get access to discounted trainings, the chance to join competitions and the ability to make new friends with similar interests.

“We offer a variety of classes,” Lilly said. “We do obedience, we do rally, we do fast cat, we do agility, fetch, just on and on and on.”

Lilly also said that the club is considering doing another public open house, but there are no concrete plans.
