Dogs and cats receive rabies vaccinations at clinic hosted by Henrico police

HENRICO COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) — Dog and cat owners made their way to a clinic held by the Henrico County Police Division on Saturday to receive rabies vaccinations for their pets.

On Saturday, Feb. 10, the Henrico County Police Division held a rabies vaccination clinic for dogs and cats from 9 a.m. to noon at the Henrico County Western Government Complex, located on 4301 E. Parham Road.

Pet owners registered and paid at the cashier’s office in the Administration Building before seeing a veterinarian. Each vaccine costed $15 in cash and would include a rabies tag and certification of inoculation. Pets from all localities were welcome.

Dennis Hawk, of Goochland County, owns a dog breeding business called Smokey Hollow Labradors and said the clinic is one of the few places he can find to receive rabies shots for his dogs.

“We’ve been here many times,” Hawk said. “Just to look for good health reasons and make sure we don’t have any rabies problems. We like to keep them up to date.”

Hawk has been running Smokey Hollow Labradors for about 35 years and said he will find a clinic to update the vaccines of four or five dogs at a time as it is important to keep the community safe from rabies.

“That’s the biggest reason,” Hawk said. “Not only keeps yourself safe, but it keeps all those around you safe by keeping them up to date on their rabies [shot].”
