WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. (CBS12) — Two dozen animals are getting ready for another chance at life after being rescued by a man from the treacherous “dead dog alley.”

Peggy Adams Animal Rescue League in West Palm Beach provides services to over 35,000 animals annually, and recently it took in 24 animals from Eddy's Dogs Animal Sanctuary, marking the beginning of a new partnership aimed at rescuing abandoned pets from South Miami-Dade's farmlands.

On November 21, a team from Peggy Adams traveled to South Miami to transport 15 adult dogs, three puppies, and a litter of six kittens from Eddy Alvarez, who runs the sanctuary. Alvarez rescues animals along a 30-mile stretch known as “dead dog alley,” where many dogs are hit by cars.

Director of Operations at Peggy Adams, Jane Tomsich said, “We are grateful to Eddy and all of the incredible work he does for the dogs left abandoned in the Everglades, and we knew we wanted to help support his mission.”

The collaboration began after a board member of Peggy Adams heard about Alvarez's efforts and reached out to offer assistance. Alvarez expressed his gratitude, saying he was overwhelmed with emotion when Tomsich called to offer help.

Most of the animals will be available for adoption starting November 25. Some are being treated for heartworm and other minor health conditions and will be placed in foster homes until they are ready for adoption.

Alvarez shared his appreciation on Facebook, writing, “Beyond grateful! Thank you Peggy and team for helping save these babies!”
