The GSPCA organised the event and also had the tough job of choosing the winners.
One of the busier classes was a ‘Fabulous Fellas and Lovely Ladies’ category, which saw about a dozen dogs competing.
The class was won by South Show dog show veteran Pebbles – a nine-year-old cavachon, who had won best puppy and waggiest tail at previous shows.
‘We just really like to support the South Show and Pebbles loves it,’ said owner Nathan Silk.
Buster, a very enthusiastic, four-year-old golden retriever, came second.
Owner Kyle Lorimer said this was the first time he had and his dog had taken part.
‘Buster is very happy to be here,’ he said.
There were three dogs in the puppy class. GSPCA manager Steve Byrne, who was in charge of judging, used the class as a an opportunity to show how easy it was to check for a pet’s microchip.
Fortunately all three dogs were chipped.
The class was won by five-month-old sprocker spaniel Ralphie, who was being handled by eight-year-old Myla Gettley, who was visiting Guernsey from Scotland on holiday.
‘I was a bit nervous,’ said Myla. ‘But it was very exciting.’
