In the quiet village of Antioquia, Colombia, Sunday mornings often follow a calm rhythm. For Doña Graciela, they start with jotting down her weekly grocery list. Her mobility makes it challenging to visit the market herself, but she’s never worried—her devoted dog eagerly steps in to lend a helping paw.
Carefully, she secures a saddlebag harness on her loyal black Pit Bull mix. Into one pocket, she places the grocery list and in another, the money. “I wrote down what he should bring me, and I put the money in here,” Doña Graciela shared with Instagram user @cejasriveraa in a video. With everything in place, her furry helper bounds out of the house, tail wagging in anticipation of his errand.
Confidently trotting down the village streets, he heads directly to the market. Even if he hesitates along the way, the familiar shopkeepers are always ready to guide him with warm smiles and open arms. Upon reaching the store, the clever dog positions himself in front of the counter, patiently waiting for someone to notice him.
“There, he’s arrived at the store,” Cejasriveraa narrated. “Now, they’re attending to him. How beautiful.” The shopkeepers carefully retrieve the list from his backpack and disappear momentarily to gather the items. While they’re gone, the pup remains perfectly still, demonstrating his incredible patience.
“Look how he patiently waits for them to attend to him,” Cejasriveraa added. When the shopkeepers return, they tie the purchased items securely to his saddlebag and take the money from his pocket. With everything in place, they send the hardworking pup on his way home with the small parcel secured to his body.
Proudly, he trots back through the village streets, his tail wagging as if to signal the successful completion of his mission. Moments later, he steps into Doña Graciela’s living room, his face beaming with joy. He sits calmly as she unties the bag, eager to receive his well-deserved treat.
“There goes the dog with his items,” Cejasriveraa said. The adorable helper even brought back the change, much to his mom’s delight. “He even brought back the change!” Doña Graciela exclaimed, laughing.
She Could Barely Walk or Breathe When Rescuers Found Her
Rescuers swooped in, but when they got the pup into their care, she had lost the use of her back legs, was struggling to breathe, and weighed just around 20 pounds.
Life may have its challenges, but with her reliable canine companion, Doña Graciela knows she’ll always have someone dependable by her side.
