DOTHAN, Ala. (WTVY) – A Dothan funeral home is expanding services to include pets, Sunset Memorial Park announced on Friday.
“Working in the funeral industry, I know how important the role of a ceremony is to the grieving process,” said Andrew Byrd, whose family owns Sunset Memorial Park. “I thought, ‘we could do this for Wiregrass pet owners.’”
Byrd said the death of his Goldendoodle, Dixie, inspired the idea.
Sunset will offer private cremation, home and vet office transfers, website obituaries, funerals, urns, and caskets. Those services will be available in spring 2025, according to a release issued on Friday.
Byrd and his parents, who founded Sunset, have long been pet lovers. Their dog Bob roamed the funeral home for years, making friends until he died.
