Downtown Dog Day returns to Springfield

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (KY3) – Saturday is the best day to be a dog in Springfield; it’s Downtown Dog Day.

The event features pet vendors, animal charities, and adoptable dogs.

This year, TAME Pet Magazine is hosting the first Paw-scars. It’s a chance for your dog to become a star in one of the following categories:

Waggiest tail
Most glamorous coat
Big & Beautiful
Small & Sassy
Floppiest ears
Most precious puppy
Golden oldie
Best dressed

Connie Rhoades Hinds, owner of TAME Pet Magazine, says Downtown Dog Day is a great chance to meet dogs looking for a forever home.

“We have a lot of charitable organizations there, including Rescue One and other organizations with adoptable dogs as well,” Rhoades Hinds said. “Actually, one of our staff adopted a dog at Downtown Dog Day last year.”

There will be plenty of tail wagging, butt sniffing, and slobbery kisses to go around. Rhoades Hinds says if you don’t have a dog but need some puppy love, Downtown Dog Day is for you.

“There will be a lot of people there that don’t have dogs at all and they get their dog fix while they’re there,” Rhoades Hinds said. “Plus, some people that want to come but their dogs would not enjoy it much. So they come without them.”

Downtown Dog Day is from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. on Saturday, May 3 at Park Central Square.
