Emaciated hound dog found alone in Shelby County, expected to recover

After spending a week in care, she is set to be released from BluePearl Pet Hospital on Tuesday, Feb. 13. She will be living with at a foster home vetted and approved by The Arrow Fund until she is recovered.”Journey will be with a foster that has taken on many of our extreme cases,” said Thom Ham with The Arrow Fund. “She knows what to look out for with a starvation case like sweet journey.”Then, she will be made available for adoption. Adoption applications can be filled out online here.“Journey is doing well considering her physical condition. She is very weak and is still in the ICU,” the nonprofit said in a statement. “She weighs 35 lbs. – the average weight for an adult female bloodhound is 80-100 lbs.!”They said she has had multiple tests and X-rays and that she has no internal or external parasites, heartworm or debris in her stomach, which is typical for starvation cases as dogs will eat anything they can when they are on their own.They said her only real issue is that she is anemic, which is normal due to her emaciation.She is on IV fluids, which includes antibiotics for an infected wound on her back. In fact, the Arrow Fund, a nonprofit in Louisville that helps abused or neglected animals, named the hound Journey because of the hope they have for her.

They said Journey came to them in a severely emaciated state.
