MCCRACKEN COUNTY, Ky. (KFVS) – Flooding in western Kentucky over the weekend led emergency crews to rescue more than a dozen people trapped in their homes on Monday.

McCracken County Emergency Management said it was notified of several families who were trapped in their homes and campers at an RV park on Shemwell Lane at around 8 a.m. on February 17.

EMA officials said the rising flood waters had risen around the campers making it unsafe for the residents to leave, and no way to get their vehicles out.

The McCracken Co. Rescue Squad Water Response Team, along with the Concord Fire Department Swift Water Team, worked to evacuate 14 people, four dogs and one cat.

First Baptist Paducah Church provided a van and driver to take the evacuees to local hotels or meet with family members.

Kentucky EMA Area 1 Manager David Koon, the McCracken Co. Sheriff’s Office, American Red Cross, Salvation Army, McCracken Co. Animal Control, McCracken Co. Fiscal Court and Jackson Purchase Electric Company assisted at the scene.
