Halloween is here, and with the arrival of the spooky season, comes dressing up in costumes … including our pets. Eckerd College has been pet-friendly since 1973, and—as of last year— houses about 100 large pets and 50 small pets in the dorms with their human family.
Among the pets are cats, dogs, parrots, guinea pigs and bearded dragons that they will be costuming this year, according to a survey sent out by The Current. Of the 25 responses, 88% said they would be dressing up their pet this Halloween.
According to the survey, 16% of the pets are being dressed as characters from movies, TV shows and cartoons. Examples of these costumes are an Ewok from “Star Wars,” Batman, Toothless from “How to Train Your Dragon” or a character from “South Park.” Eight percent of respondents said they are dressing up their furry friend as a witch, ghost or other Halloween monster.
Animal costumes worn by other animals are also a popular category this fall, with 28% of respondents disguising their pets as sharks, lobsters, bees, and so on. Four responses listed food costumes, like hot dogs, condiments and lattes. The last remaining 20% fall into a miscellaneous category, dressing up their pet as their favorite rapper or a football.
