MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. – A South Florida family is desperate to get their beloved husky back after they said it was stolen from right outside her home.
The breed of dog can go for up to $3,000, and that’s why the family thinks two people had their eyes on their dog earlier Tuesday afternoon.
The pair is seen in surveillance video unleashing the dog and then calling him just down the street, out of view of a neighbor’s camera, from the family’s home located in the area of Northwest 62nd Street and 17th Avenue in the Liberty City area.
They describe Buddy, the 1-year-old husky, as an emotional support animal.
When the family came home Tuesday, they found the dog was no longer on his leash as they had left him.
After checking on a neighbor’s surveillance footage, they saw Buddy off his leash, wandering in the street, with a black car sitting nearby.
One neighbor told Local 10 News he saw the pair luring the dog, possibly to get out of sight of the camera, before grabbing it and driving away.
“The dog was walking around, and then they called the dog to the car, and they grabbed the dog and threw it in the other car and they took off,” said dog owner Stephanie Lacret.
The family said the friendly dog would have been receptive to strangers trying to call him. They’re now asking for the public’s help in bringing their pet back home.
“It’s just very hurtful that somebody can come and take part of your family,” said Larcet. “That you’ve had and grown an attachment to for almost a year now.”
Family members said the dog has a scratch on his nose and some pink paint on a hind leg.
They’re asking if anyone comes across a dog for sale with those characteristics to reach out to the Miami Police Department.
