COIMBATORE: A 50-year-old woman, her two daughters and their pet dog suffocated to death at their residence at Rose Garden at Urumandampalayam village near Thudiyalur in Coimbatore district after the UPS (uninterruptible power supply) battery in their house exploded in the early hours of Tuesday.
The deceased were identified as J Vijayalakshmi and her daughters J Archana, 24, and J Anjali, 21. Vijayalakshmi’s husband Jothilingam had died two years ago.
The family was living on the first floor of the house and had rented out the ground floor. On Monday night, the family members had closed the main door of the house and gone to sleep. Around 6am on Tuesday, following no activity in the house, their tenant noticed smoke emanating from the house and alerted fire and rescue services personnel. The fire services personnel broke open the main door, doused the fire in the hall and found a sofa and television set charred as well as the dog dead. Vijayalakshmi and Archana were found dead in the kitchen, while Anjali’s body was found in the bedroom.
They had been residing at the house in Rose Garden for the past 15 years.
