Local business Pets N Groom has won a BurlingtonToday Reader Favourite award in the Pet Care category, due to their dedication to furry customers and their owners.
Michael Desjardins manages the family-owned pet grooming business, which opened in 1996. His original plan was to retire and be a stay-at-home dad, but pivoted to working at Pets N Groom and fell in love with the job. “Everything about my job is fulfilling,” he says. “I get up every morning, happy to go to work.”
Pets N Groom’s hours are 9-6, but Michael says he’s likely never worked 9-6 in his life. If people call with an emergency, he’ll stay open and help. “We take the time to make sure that our customers are happy. We always go above and beyond,” he says.
The business has over a thousand reviews and nearly 5 stars on Google from satisfied customers, as well as the most votes in their Reader Favourite award category. “It’s good to know that your customers care, that Burlington picked you,” says Michael.
One of the ways that the staff at Pets N Groom supports their customers is by empowering them with the knowledge to keep their furry friends looking and feeling their best. Customers with matted pups might worry that shaving their dog is the only option, but the Pets N Groom crew take the time to listen to the issues they’re having, tell them what they can do today to fix the matting, and advise them on what to do moving forward. “All our staff will take the time to educate a customer,” says Michael.
Customers have come to know Michael and his business well, in addition to knowing the acclaimed registered charity that he co-founded, Burlington Helping Burlington, which also won a Reader Favourite award this year. The charity works to swiftly attend to the needs of local charities and not-for-profits by securing donations, organizing fundraisers, and providing volunteers.
Being part of the Burlington community has been nothing but positive for Michael and his family, and that includes the business community. “Especially after COVID, I learned that there are so many family businesses in Burlington, and they all want to help,” he says.
“And they’re all good businesses. They’re honest and real,” he adds.
