SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (Dakota News Now) – A dog was killed in a fire Tuesday afternoon on the west side of Sioux Falls.
Sioux Falls Fire Rescue crews were called to the area of 26th Street and Sertoma Avenue just after 3:00 p.m. for reports of a structure fire.
No people were inside the home, but a dog was trapped inside.
Crews say a heavy body of fire on the first floor extended into the second floor. They had difficulty advancing into the structure due to heat.
The fire was extinguished in roughly 30 minutes and caused significant damage to the house, leaving the residents displaced.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
Sioux Falls Falls Fire Rescue responded with 6 fire trucks, 4 support vehicles and 27 personnel.
