WEST VALLEY, Utah (KUTV) — A West Valley family is asking for help to find out who shot their dog with what appeared to be a gel blaster.
Their Ring camera caught everything on video.
The video showed the moment Konna, a 3-year-old goldendoodle, got shot multiple times by what looked like a gel blaster — a toy gun that shoots gel BBs.
“It broke my heart,” said Angel Hernandez, Konna's owner.
Hernandez couldn’t believe her eyes.
“It hit her skin. She was confused and didn’t know what was going on,” Hernandez said.
She said Konna is the “neighborhood sweetheart,” and that the dog has no fur on her back due to alopecia — which is where she got hit.
“When she came in, I checked on her and everything. She has a couple of marks on her back,” Hernandez said.
Guinn Shuster with the Humane Society of Utah, said hurting pets by shooting them with BBs or Orbeez guns can lead to physical and psychological issues.
“We have seen animals that were injured by BB guns. Often, it’s something that isn’t discovered in time until later. Once they get embedded under the skin, these are things that can cause serious issues and require surgery or medication,” Shuster said. “That dog may associate the pain with seeing children and may now be scared of kids.”
Hernandez hopes Konna’s big heart and spirit will prevail.
“She loves everybody,” Hernandez said. “She doesn’t have a mean bone in her body at all.”
