After days of desperation for a dental student and her mother, who have been searching for her missing service dog, they are reunited with their service dog, Mav.
“He's so kind and gentle but fun and energetic and playful,” said Gracie Langham. “I just miss him so much.”
Mav, an 8-month-old dog, went missing on Halloween after owner Langham was involved in an afternoon car crash near the intersection of Clearview Parkway and Rye Street in Metairie.
“As soon as the accident happened, my driver door was kind of stuck,” said Langham. “So, I kicked the door open to get us out. And as soon as the door opened, Mav jumped out the vehicle and darted away.”
Since then, Langham's mother, Aimee Dronet, has been in town on a mission to find Mav. She traveled from her home 2.5 hours away to Metairie last week and has been here ever since, scouring the streets.
“I'm the driving force. I'm a doer, and I'm a fixer,” said Dronet. “Gracie is my oldest of three daughters, and Mav was my first grandchild.”
Dronet has also turned to the power of social media for help, quickly gaining a large following.
“We created a Tiktok, we created Instagram and a Facebook page, and ever since then, that's kind of what we've been focusing on,” said Dronet.
While there have been some sightings, nothing tangible has emerged yet.
Mav is more than just a companion. He's a lifesaver, training to help Langham, who has a severe nut allergy.
“He learned how to find ‘it,' meaning, detect nuts,” said Langham. “That something had nuts in it by pulling at my shin.”
But now, It's Mav who needs help. The ladies in his life are asking for boots on the ground, eyes peeled or whatever can be done to bring this beloved pup home.
“I hope that anybody with any information at all will come forward and help us find dash cameras, anything at all, to be able to get our baby back,” said Langham.
There was a $5,500 reward for information to help find Mav and return him safely.
