‘Feisty’ Dog Mimics Owner’s Squats at Gym — Watch!

Dr. Evan Strahl’s dog, Dooma, isn't just a pet — she's a workout buddy, too.

The energetic Belgian Malinois was caught on camera mimicking her owner as he did squats at an LA Fitness gym in Seattle.

Strahl tells PEOPLE he began training Dooma to perform the exercise when she was about 6 months old.

He calls the 3-year-old canine, whom he's had since she was a 12-week-old puppy, “feisty and a little bit crazy, but very sweet.”

Strahl, a chiropractor and dog trainer, says he wasn't surprised to see Dooma squatting along with him since she's a highly trained sports dog.

Before he met Dooma, he says he was in a car accident, which took the lives of two former dogs, a puppy, and a 6-year-old German shepherd.

He describes the older canine as having been his “absolute best friend in the whole world.”

After the accident, Strahl got Dooma from a sports dog breeder in the Netherlands named Hans Pegge, who he says described Dooma as “a super special puppy.”

Dooma specializes in protection dog sports, competing against police dogs and other sports dogs. She's currently pregnant, and he says all the puppies will be donated to police departments.

The day the cute clip was taken, Strahl says he was thinking, “Well, she is probably going to do something crazy. I should just take a video of this.”

He says it's not unusual for fellow gym-goers to approach him when they see Dooma's impressive moves.

“We got a lot of people that come up and want to talk to me about it for sure,” he says.

When Strahl shared the video on social media, he says the response from people was essentially “just that they were really happy to see her be so happy.”
