A residential fire on Lawson Road in northeast Tallahassee claimed the lives of four pets and caused significant damage to a home on the Monday evening, according to the Tallahassee Fire Department.
Firefighters were dispatched at approximately 7:21 p.m. and arrived to find heavy flames engulfing the rear of a single-story house.
“Crews immediately initiated fire suppression efforts, making entry into the residence and battling flames that had made way into the attic,” a TFD spokesperson wrote on Facebook. “A search confirmed that nobody was inside of the home, but unfortunately, two dogs and two cats passed away during the incident.”
The cause of the fire is currently under investigation by the State Fire Marshal’s Office.
TFD was assisted on scene by the Tallahassee Police Department, Leon County EMS and the City of Tallahassee Utilities.
In the wake of the incident, TFD is reminding residents to ensure their smoke alarms are functioning properly and to have an emergency escape plan in place.
