GRAND FORKS — Four pets were killed in a residential fire on Wednesday morning, Dec.
20, at 1118 First Ave.
N.
in Grand Forks.

The Grand Forks Fire Department was dispatched to the residence at 10:32 a.m.
On scene, they observed heavy smoke coming from the front of the duplex, according to a press release.

The fire was located on the first floor and extinguished.
The first-floor unit had significant smoke and fire damage, while the upstairs unit had minor smoke damage, the release said.

Emergency personnel performed CPR on one dog and one cat, but they — along with another dog and cat — died.

All residents had left the building before emergency personnel arrived, but two were transported to Altru with unknown injuries, according to the release.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

The fire department responded with five engines, one truck and one command vehicle, with a total of 20 personnel, the release said.
There were no injuries.

All residents of the duplex were displaced, and the American Red Cross is assisting them.

Our newsroom occasionally reports stories under a byline of "staff." Often, the "staff" byline is used when rewriting basic news briefs that originate from official sources, such as a city press release about a road closure, and which require little or no reporting.
At times, this byline is used when a news story includes numerous authors or when the story is formed by aggregating previously reported news from various sources.
If outside sources are used, it is noted within the story.
