HILO (HawaiiNewsNow) – A Hawaii Island animal rescue center is hosting a free pet adoption event featuring dozens of dogs and cats.
Aloha Ilio Rescue is hosting Cause for Paws: The Ulti-Mutt Adoption Event on March 29 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Afook-Chinen Civic Auditorium.
Along with being able to adopt a new pet, the event will feature:
- Free dog food pantry.
- Pet boutique with unique pet-related items.
- Ask a trainer booth for expert pet advice.
- Animal education and coloring books for keiki.
- Aloha Ilio photo booth for fun pet-friendly snapshots.
- Food trucks.
- Over 40 local vendors with a variety of products and services.
Aloha Ilio Rescue is hosting the event in collaboration with partners who will provide some essential pet services:
- Action 4 Animals will be hosting cat adoptions.
- Good Karma Spay and Neuter Clinic will be providing free vaccines and deworming on-site.
- Hawaii Animal Kuleana Alliance will be offering animal emergency preparedness services.
- PETFIX Spay and Neuter will be scheduling free spay/neuter appointments
- County of Hawaii will be providing free dog licensing and microchipping.
Organizers said that well-behaved, leashed dogs are welcome to attend the event as well, but ask that all dogs be non-aggressive and under owner supervision at all times.
Aloha Ilio Rescue said that in 2024 they helped with over 600 adoptions, provided more than 700 spay and neuter surgeries, donated over 3,000 pounds of pet food to local families and assisted with more than 50 major medical cases.
