Hello, dear readers! It’s Kimmie here, bringing you the latest from Kimmie’s Korner.
Today, I want to talk about a purr-fect opportunity to welcome a barn cat (or two) into your life. Currently, we collaborate with Kerr County Animal Services to help place socially challenged kitties into working cat homes. These are cats that truly have no other option but death. These impounded cats are not available for public adoption, and this is their only chance at a better life.
However, times are changing, and we need your help more than ever. In years past, we had an excellent working relationship with an outside organization that had a thriving Barn Cat Program. They accepted our fully vetted, socially awkward cats, into that program. Hundreds of lives have been saved over the years.
Sadly, we received notice last week that they may focusing their efforts on other communities and may not be able to help as much. We were devastated.
If we want to continue this positive lifesaving trend, it’s now imperative that we establish a program of our own.
Barn cats are natural hunters, adept at keeping pesky rodents like mice and rats (and even snakes) at bay. This makes them a cost-effective and eco-friendly alternative to chemical pest control methods.
Plus, they’re low-maintenance companions, requiring minimal attention — ideal for those seeking a furry friend without the demands of a high-maintenance pet.
Beyond their pest control prowess, these working cats offer companionship, bringing comfort and a sense of security to those around them. Their presence can promote relaxation and help alleviate stress.
For families, adopting a barn cat provides an educational experience, teaching both children and adults about animal behavior and care.
By choosing to adopt one of these cats, you’re giving a second chance to an animal in need. Their life literally depends on it.
All our barn cats are fully vetted: vaccinated, spayed or neutered, ear-tipped, microchipped and treated with Bravecto before joining our barn cat program.
To adopt, you’ll need to provide shelter, food, water and necessary veterinary care.
Suitable shelters include barns, outbuildings, factories and warehouses.
We offer relocation setups and guidance throughout the entire process, partnering with you to ensure a smooth transition for your new feline friends (we usually recommend adopting in pairs).
If you’re interested in adopting a barn cat, please reach out to us at AWS Freeman-Fritts Animal Shelter & Clinic by calling 830-257-4144.
Let’s work together to find these wonderful cats the homes they deserve.
