Friday fire displaces family, pets

Published 12:00 am Tuesday, April 2, 2024

A Salisbury Fire crew clear a home on Crawford Street following a Friday fire that displaced a family of five.

SALISBURY — A family of five was displaced by a Friday fire in the 100 block of Crawford Street in Salisbury.

The family was not at home when the fire broke out but three pets, including a dog named Mystic and two guinea pigs, Heidi and Gunner, were. However, those pets made it out of the fire safely.

The mother of the family requested not to be identified but shared that her three children are ages 1, 6 and 10. She indicated that the family was returning from a trip to Mooresville when they turned onto their street and saw the emergency response vehicles and fire engines parked in front of their home.

The mother added that the family, which rents, planned to start a GoFundMe in conjunction with their landlord. As of Monday, a GoFundMe page had not been started. This story will be updated if that changes.

According to the Salisbury Fire Marshal said the fire has been listed as accidental.

“There were electrical issues going on inside the attic,” the fire marshal said. “Everything pointed toward electric manufacturing up there.”

The fire marshal added that there was no determination of anything suspicious and that Ring camera footage from nearby homes confirmed the fire began in the attic.

The American Red Cross assisted with the displacement.
