For many seniors with four-legged companions, the decision between paying for medications and other expenses or buying food or medical attention for their pets can be a difficult one.
That’s why the Friends of Alum Creek Dog Park are holding their 15th Holiday Pet Food Drive from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 7, and Monday, Dec. 8 at the dog park at 3992 Hollenback Road off South Old State Road near the Alum Creek State Park Marina in Lewis Center.
The event benefits two central Ohio nonprofits that provide help for needy seniors and their pets: Hospets and SourcePoint.
Hospets, an all-volunteer Marysville nonprofit, is asking for donations of large bags of dog and cat food, small biscuit-type dog treats, canned cat food, kitty litter, as well as financial donations for basic veterinary care for pets whose owners have financial difficulties and for additional supplies. Those who would like to donate can do it in person at the Alum Creek Dog Park event on the dates listed above or online at mysourcepoint.org or at Hospets.org.
In addition, Hospets transports pets to grooming and veterinary appointments and assists senior owners unable to care for their pets anymore with finding new homes.
SourcePoint is a nonprofit that helps Delaware County adults over age 55, including operating Meals on Wheels in the county. SourcePoint delivers more than 500 pounds of pet food each month to seniors so they can take care of their pets.
