After a three-month search, a Gurugram couple have reunited with their lost dog in Agra. Greyhound, their 10-year-old Indian breed dog, was discovered wandering near the dense forests close to the Taj Mahal on February 15.
Dipayan Ghosh and Kasturi Patra left no stone unturned in their relentless search for their dog, which included drone surveillance, analysing CCTV footage, conducting door-to-door enquiries, and offering a Rs 50,000 reward. Their story is now melting hearts on the internet.
According to the Times of India, the couple travelled to Agra in early November 2024 to celebrate the Diwali long weekend, taking their two dogs, Woof and Greyhound, along with them. On November 3, while visiting Fatehpur Sikri, they received a distressing call from their hotel: Greyhound had slipped her leash and disappeared. Two days later, CCTV footage showed her near the Taj Mahal metro station, but after that, she vanished without a trace.
Determined to find her, Ghosh and Patra stayed in Agra for two weeks, distributing posters and banners, and personally searching the area where their pet dog went missing. Even after returning to Gurugram, they made frequent trips back to Agra, prioritising their search. They raised the reward offer from Rs 30,000 to Rs 50,000, putting up notices across walls, autorickshaws, shops, and metro stations. Their campaign also spread across social media, prompting animal rescue groups and volunteers to extend help.
The couple also analysed several CCTV footage, used drones to scan alleyways, and even sought the help of police dogs. Yet, none of these efforts led to a breakthrough.
According to Samridhi Sirohi, animal rescuer, Greyhound was sighted in the forests near the Taj Mahal, but locals mistook the dog for a wolf and threw stones at it, causing the frightened animal to run deeper into the forest. On February 14, the couple received that long-awaited call—from Prashant Jain, a tour guide who had spotted Greyhound.
A viral video shows the emotional couple caressing and hugging the dog.
