FORT WAYNE, Ind.
(WPTA) - In partnership with the BISSELL Pet Foundation, Fort Wayne Animal Care and Control (FWACC) is participating in a reduced-fee ‘Empty the Shelters’ adoption event.

Alongside over 400 shelters in 43 states nationwide, FWACC will be participating in a reduced-fee ‘Empty the Shelters’ adoption event from May 1-15.

BISSELL Pet Foundation, a national animal welfare organization dedicated to ending pet homelessness, sponsors reduced adoption fees of $50 or less per cat or dog during each ‘Empty the Shelters’ event.

Adoption fees will be reduced at FWACC as well as off-site locations including Covington Veterinary Hospital, Westside Animal Hospital, New Haven Pet Hospital, Black Forest Cat Café, Pet Supplies Plus, and Petsmart stores.

FWACC’s ‘Empty the Shelters’ reduced adoption fees are as follows:

  • $50 adoption fee for dogs (between 2 months and 6 years old)
  • Waived adoption fee for dogs (7 years and older)
  • “Pick your Price” for all cats and small animals

“Our nation’s animal shelters are facing a capacity crisis and need your help now.
Adoptions have slowed while a surge in owner surrenders due to families facing economic and housing challenges has left tens of thousands of highly adoptable pets desperate to find homes.
Our Spring National ‘Empty the Shelters’ will support the adoption of thousands of pets across the country, helping shelters in this critical time.
Opening your home to a shelter pet saves a life and creates lifesaving space to help another pet in need.

FWACC first partnered with BISSELL Pet Foundation in December of 2022.

“We are one of many animal shelters across the country that struggle with overpopulation.
Events like “Empty the Shelters” from the BISSEL Pet Foundation help make a difference to our problem.
We know having a furry companion is a lifetime investment, and one factor can be the adoption fee; we are grateful for our partners, BISSELL Pet Foundation, who help remove that factor and help both animals and the community find each other,”

Since 2016, 226,000 pets have been adopted as part of the BISSELL Pet Foundation’s “Empty the Shelters” program.
