A new non-profit dedicated to providing forever home support and hospice care for senior dogs has been born out of Lumby.

Fletcher’s Keep Senior Dog Foundation has been created by Anita Dunford, in memory of her own dog.

Diagnosed with cancer, Fletcher needed additional care, attention and love.

In honour of his resilience and all senior dogs in need, Dunford created the foundation to shed light on the often overlooked plight of senior dogs facing uncertain futures.

Many risk being surrendered or live in pain as age-related issues incur costly medical needs that some owners cannot afford.

“As our communities grapple with rising costs of essentials like food and fuel, we recognize the strain on pet owners, especially those with elderly companions,” said Dunford.
“Many senior dog owners face mounting challenges in covering escalating care expenses, and we empathize with the financial burden this places on families who are simply striving to provide the best for their senior friends.”

In honour of National Senior Pet Month, Dunford is making an urgent appeal for donations to aid senior care companions.

“At Fletcher’s Keep, we are dedicated to helping respond to these difficulties.
Our initiatives aim to provide vital support, preventing owners and families from the heart-wrenching decision of surrendering their senior pets due to financial constraints or medical needs,” said Dunford.

“Every senior dog deserves love and proper care, regardless of financial hardships.”

The foundation’s official launch coincides with Giving Tuesday, therefore individuals, families and businesses are urged to consider contributing to the cause.

Every donation received will go directly towards providing essential care, medical support, and a loving environment for senior dogs in their golden years.
