Gov. Ivey urges Alabama families to cherish their pets after First Dog Missy’s passing | Alabama

Alabama Gov. Kay Ivey announced on Friday that her beloved dog, Missy, has passed away. First Dog Missy, a blended collie mix, was about 10 years old.

Ivey adopted Missy from the Montgomery Humane Shelter in January 2019. The two were inseparable, with Missy often accompanying the governor at the Governor's Mansion and on outings.

“Missy was a great friend. After the best days and the hardest ones, it was always so good to return to the Governor’s Mansion and be greeted by Missy,” said Ivey. “She really made it feel like home, and I will miss her dearly.”

The governor expressed gratitude to the staff at Montgomery Veterinary Associates for their care and comfort in Missy's final days. Ivey urged Alabama families to cherish their pets even more.
