Greensboro Parks and Recreation is inviting area dog owners to bring their canine friends to the “Fetch: Dog Egg Hunt” on Saturday, April 12, at Griffin Dog Park. The event, which is being held from 9 a.m. to noon at 5301 Hilltop Road in Greensboro, will feature a costume contest, a treat-filled egg hunt, as well as activities for both pets and their owners.
Given the price of eggs in recent times, it is generous of the city to put on this event, though these no doubt will not be real eggs. And, even if they were, no one would want to eat eggs that had been left out in the grass and retrieved by a dog.
All participating dogs at the event must be leashed upon arrival and have up-to-date vaccinations.
To ensure a safe environment, female dogs in heat and unneutered male puppies will not be allowed. The festivities will kick off at 9:15 a.m. with a costume contest, where winners will be chosen in categories such as most original, best homemade, funniest, most creative, best group and best overall costumes.
The city did not say what the prizes would be.
The egg hunt will take place throughout the morning, with dogs searching for treat-filled eggs in designated time slots between 9:15 and 11 a.m. In addition to the hunt, attendees can explore vendor booths and take home a special craft to complete with their dogs.
Admission is free, but registration is required for both the egg hunt and costume contest. Participants can sign up in advance to secure a spot in the event.
