I wish to draw attention to a distressing and increasingly common issue—the abandonment of pet animals in our city.
It is alarming to see more and more cats and dogs, often still wearing collars, roaming the streets. These animals, once cared for, now struggle to survive without the instincts or resources to fend for themselves.
Even more disturbing are reports of pets, particularly cats, being abandoned in shopping bags—sometimes tied shut. These animals suffer a slow, painful death from starvation and exhaustion.
Abandonment is never an acceptable solution. If owners genuinely cannot continue caring for their pets, they should surrender them to reputable shelters or rescue organisations. These facilities can ensure the animals receive proper care and have a chance at finding new homes.
We must spread awareness about responsible pet ownership. Abandoning animals is not only inhumane—it reflects poorly on us as a society. Let us act with compassion and responsibility.
