SHINNSTON, W.Va (WDTV) – The Harrison County Humane Society is offering information to pet owners on how to keep their pets safe during the winter storm.
Official said it’s crucial to stay with your pets when you are letting them go outside.
“Let them outside for about five or ten minutes and definitely stay outside with them in case if their feet are getting cold,” said Ashely Higginbotham. “Don’t leave them out for too long cause their feet will freeze and it will cause a limp.”
If you don’t make sure to take the proper precautions it will cause them to get frost bite on their ears and paws.
If you have outside animals make a makeshift house with straw inside so they stay warm.

“If you are going to go outside with your dog, they do make do clothes kind of what it on spike here,” said Ashley Higginbotham. “They do make little sweaters for short haired dogs or if you have a hairless dog, it will keep them warm.”
