FARGO, N.D. (Valley News Live) -A heart-warming update to a story we first shared with you in December. When a Fargo man’s service dog went missing, the community rallied around Jason Larkin and his family. Ruby still hasn’t been found and the family isn’t giving up, but they do have a new addition.
Larkin says, “It’s been hard for all of us, but you know, Ruby’s on top of our mind and in conversation daily.”
Larkin still holds out hope that someday, Ruby will come back.
“I’ve heard a lot of different cases where people have found pets years later and you know, Ruby will be, I’ll always be looking for Ruby,” says Larkin.
Without Ruby, Larkin had to spend his days alone, but now, that’s all changed, thanks to Knox.
With a big smile, Larkin says, “He just melded with everybody just so kind and loveable and did well with young kids and it was almost a match made right off from the get go.”
Knox is a 15-month-old golden-doodle.
“From the get go it was almost like he knew that I’m his person and without any training whatsoever, whenever my chair moves he’s right there next to me, waits for me, watches for me, and then as soon as I stop he’ll sit next to me and lay down,” explains Larkin.
Knox isn’t trained to be a service dog like Ruby, but Larkin says, that’s just fine.
“He’s just a great, great family dog,” gushes Larkin.
Larkin says he’ll decide this summer if Knox will do any further training or remain the family pet.
He also wants to add that he appreciates all of the support from the Fargo-Moorhead community and for those who continue to search for Ruby.
