It's a truth only known to cat owners that our feline friends are particularly obsessed with Christmas trees and decorations.

Every festive season social media gets flooded with cute videos of pets getting right into the décor, and this year is no different with these TikToks already appearing online.

One cat owner shared a video of her kitty sitting near the top of the tree with an intense scowl on her face.

The tree hasn't even been decorated yet but the cat prompted people who saw the video to joke that the cat is now the ornament.

Amongst the comments about how cute the scene is and jokes about the cat's facial expression, the horror stories started to roll in.

“Omg mine always get stuck and I have to get them out,” a cat owner said.

“My kitten broke the bottom half of the tree,” wrote a TikTok user.

”My cat is why I can't have nice things,” another commented.

“My cat already broke a couple branches,” a man said.

“I'm literally tying my tree to my wall so they don't knock it over,” another posted.

Another new TikTok showed three cats nestled in the middle of wreaths placed on a dining table.

This clip also received plenty of comments about the cute scene and jokes about the cats being the decorations.

“My cat is OBSESSED with Christmas! I started pulling stuff out today and she's so happy, I see she's not alone they are adorable,” one said.

“How kind of you to buy them Christmas themed cat beds!” a woman commented.

However, both cats climbing Christmas trees and getting stuck into decorations is a “potentially dangerous situation”, according to vet Dr Katrina Warren.

“Climbing up the branches, batting at shiny decorations, or attempting to place themselves as the star on the top of the tree can be a disaster. Not only is there the risk of a toppled tree and items smashed, but cats often ingest tinsel and ribbons, which can lead to an intestinal blockage,” she wrote in an article for 9honey Pets.

“Find a balance between a festive atmosphere and ensuring the safety of your feline friends by securing trees, avoiding hazardous decorations, and keeping a watchful eye on their mischievous antics during the holiday season.”
