MADRID TOWNSHIP, Maine (WABI) – Six pets were lost when a home burnt down in Madrid Township Sunday night.
According to the Franklin Journal, the home and attached barn on Reeds Mill Road was engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived at 7 p.m.
They say firefighters were able to save a chicken coop and an outbuilding with animals on the property, but three dogs and three cats were lost in the fire.
It is reported subzero temperatures were a challenge for crews and four trucks froze.
They say firefighters returned around 5:30 a.m. Monday morning when the fire rekindled.
Aside from a firefighter with minor frostbite, no injuries were reported.
