Wouldn't it be fantastic if flying with your dog or cat was as easy as flying with friends or family members?
Air carriers such as JSX, Aero, and Bark are private and semi-private carriers that are making things easier and more comfortable for you and your furry family members with pet policies that are more relaxed and pet-centric. Even better: Fares are often on par with or not much more expensive than other airlines that have stricter in-cabin pet policies. Here's how they work.
Flying with pets
JSX and Aero allow passengers to bring dogs up to 79 pounds on board, whereas Bark welcomes dogs of all sizes. Medium and large dogs require a seat purchase and must remain in the seat or the floor space of the adjoining seat during the flight.
This is in contrast to other commercial airlines that limit in-cabin pets to those weighing roughly 20 pounds (including the weight of the pet carrier). Moreover, while other airlines require small pets to remain in their carriers at all times, smaller furry friends on JSX, Aero, and Bark must remain in their carriers only during takeoff and landing.

The air carriers' pet policies vary some, but — generally speaking — pets must be up to date on their vaccinations, be leashed or contained at all times in all areas (gate, jetway, plane), and be able to remain in their seating area for the flight's duration. Depending on the carrier, there can be a maximum of five to 14 pets on a flight.
Smaller planes and semi-private flights

JSX, Aero, and Bark operate smaller airplanes. For instance, JSX's flights are only 30-passenger rides. This expedites the process of going through security, boarding, and deplaning — not to mention the comfort and enjoyment of a smaller, more private jaunt. While terrific for any pet owner needing to travel with their furry companions, this option is especially beneficial for older pets and pets with special needs.
TSA security checks still are required for these type of flights, but because there are so few passengers, it takes little or no time, and the experience is more relaxed.

Also, these carriers travel between dedicated hangars, and they often offer perks like business-class legroom, free in-flight Wi-Fi, in-seat power-charging for your devices, as well as in-flight snacks and beverages.
What are the benefits of flying with pets?
You get the benefit of knowing your pet is safe, nearby, and cared for, and your pet can see you and relax during the flight. Also, security check, boarding, and deplaning are streamlined and quick, which can be a huge advantage when traveling with an anxious furry companion. Depending on the carrier, passengers can show up between 20 to 45 minutes prior to departure to the dedicated hangar and go through the boarding process within minutes.
Is flying with pets expensive?
Airfare on these private or semi-private air carriers can be on par with larger commercial airlines and their pet policies and fees. Check prices to your destination and keep in mind that pets that don't fit in a carrier under the seat will require a seat purchase.
